March 7, 2014 Wanaka, NZ A Drive

“The roads in New Zealand are either winding, very winding or extremely winding,” says Ken. This is especially true on the South Island. The roads are interesting with beautiful vistas in every direction. Both Ken and I are delighted to be passengers in the van, enjoying every curve in the road. Today we toured the area around Wanaka. We drove a big loop, first driving along the highest road in New Zealand, then looking at the old mining towns and finally touring more wineries. And we visited a cheesery. I suggested that cheesery was not really a proper word but I was told that in New Zealand, Cheesery is a correct word and is used all the time. Their cheese was excellent, which was the most important thing. The valleys are spectacular as are the mountains. Queenstown is a mecca for skiers and as is Wanaka, has a four season tourist operation. It is a busy place full of young, energetic people.. This little part of the world is beautiful.
