Arthur Herman wrote this book and a good writer he is. It is a rollicking story of the production of armaments and vehicles and airplanes built in the Unites States during the Second World War. The numbers are staggering. This book tells how it was done. It is a great story especially at a time than you seldom find a good word about the country, not at home and not abroad.
The full title is "Freedom's Forge: How American Business Produced Victory in World War Two". You seldom hear of the people today but this book brings these important people alive and is well worth reading. It also tells yet more arguments about whether or not the government should be in charge. Arthur Herman would tell you NO, not if you wanted to win the war.
Arthur Herman also wrote "How the Scots Invented the Modern World", also a good book. He is an excellent writer and I thoroughly enjoyed Freedom's Forge, just as I did with the Scots book. You can read it and be proud.
