March 30, 2011. Double D Ranch, Texas. A Dry Ranch.

Everything is brown and hard.  The grass is brown and the rocks are brown.  Only the live oak trees have leaves that are not brown.  This morning at least four deer were close to our top house, and they even looked dark brown.  There is no question.  We need rain....again.

The locals speak of the years past of drouth, the longest being a seven years span.  In Texas, it is called drouth, at least it is in the Hill Country.   It was terrible, with dying cattle and dry wells all over the area.   The creeks and rivers are dry now with only the large rivers like the LLano still watered and even them not running much.   The predictions are that we will stay dry for several years, as we have a few years of ample rain.   "It is only a matter of time", say the local sages.

Ken and I still like the look and feel of the ranch.  We feel fortunate that we don't make our living off the ranch.  That would be difficult, if not impossible.
