February 20, 2011. Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. Gill's arrival.

I am excited.  Gill is coming to visit us here in Mexico.  She lives in Toronto.  Their winter has been severe so she will be ready for a bit of warmth but it is a surprise that she is coming.  Most of our friends and relatives will not come to Mexico because of the violence.  But she is coming.  In fact she is in the airplane as we speak.  Gill is energetic and enthusiastic so it will be interesting to see what she thinks of our life style.  Ken has commented about us that  "we are better at doing nothing",  which is true,  but Gill has never seen us do nothing so it will be interesting.

Gillian is a good friend.  She and her husband Alan moved to Bethesda about the same time as us.  We met at the YMCA outdoor swimming pool and she quickly joined Picnic Group.   Her children, Tim and David were steps down from mine.  Alan and Gill moved to Toronto, Alan to be a full professor at the University of Toronto.  He had previously had surgery for the removal of a brain tumor.   Five years after the treatment we were called to rejoice with his progress but unfortunately, two weeks later, Alan had a seizure and he subsequently died.  It was very sad.  She had two young boys to support.   Gill proved to be a trooper.  She completed her PHD immediately and has always been productive.   Certainly she has been a good mother to her two boys who are both hugely successful.

She is the one who bought the first lot around the Bay from us in Nova Scotia and it is her who convinced the Elys and Mitchells to buy their lots and build their summer homes.  People think I was responsible but that it was not the case.  It was Gill's idea and her dream to have us grow old together in Nova Scotia.  And it worked!!   We will enjoy her visit.
