Gillian arrived this afternoon. When she arrived, she looked weary, but not any more. She has come for a vacation and so far, we have talked a lot about her one year vacation in 2014. With both Ken and Gill on their iPads, we three have been exploring all her options. She is renting her condo in Toronto for the full calendar year, which means she is forced to take a full year away from Toronto. Actually, she will take a sabbatical from York University and will spend three months in New Zealand writing a paper or two. We will visit her when she is there. The first three months of the year are set in New Zealand. And of course she will be in Nova Scotia for the summer months.
Now is the hard part. She has so many options. We three were exploring all the different ways to go on a ship from New Zealand, perhaps ending up in England, where she will do more work at Cambridge where she spent her last sabbatical. But it takes sixty days by boat to get to England and she is not sure she can stand that long on a boat. By the time she leaves us here, she will have even more choices, thus making her life difficult. She will figure it out and we will help her.
She loved dinner at the outside restaurant down the road. The sunset was magnificent and the food was good. It is an unpretentious place which is perfect for the first evening in town. Ken and I will enjoy her visit.
