July 18, 2014. Western Head, N.S. Friends.

Early this afternoon, my friend Mary came by to say hello and to chat. She had been out for a walk. Pat and Mal joined us sitting around the kitchen drinking tea. And we ate Pat's shortbread to accompany the tea. Our visit was pleasant but short. Later in the afternoon Wendy and Gill stopped to visit. Gill was walking to dinner at Wendy's home and met Wendy as she was walking along the shore. I was upstairs reading my e mails but joined them to visit in the living room. Soon Wendy's 6 year old grandson walked over to our home all by himself and sat joining in the conversation. Ten minutes later, Wendy's son Tojo and grandson #2 came, just to be sure that his son had not lost his way. Again we visited and chatted and enjoyed each other. Soon they were off walking home while we four went to dine at The Best Coast Coffee Cafe. One of the pleasures of living in Western Head for the summer is our friends. We can walk to each other's homes, just to say hello. In past centuries, that was normal, but in today's world, we must make an appointment to get together. Here in Western Head, on Gull Bay, on the Atlantic Ocean, we have the best of all worlds. We spend the summer together, then we scatter to our homes, Gill to Toronto, Mary to Ocean View, Wendy to Potomac and I to Texas, so we never get bored with each other. And we have great fun along with our husbands. It is the best part of living in Western Head.
