February 20, 2021. Playa Royale, Mexico. Heat.

In the early years of living in Mexico for the winter, we had some cool weather. As we have no warm winter clothes we looked at the thermostats. They show a switch for heat so we turned on the heat but even though the fan was working, we had no heat. So we tried another control. Every room has a separate system, for a total of five but we were unable to get any heat from any room. I called the front desk and told the gentleman that our heating system was not working. He was apologetic and polite but told me gently that Playa Royal has no heat so we were not going to able to get heat in the condo. He did not even laugh. But we did. What were we thinking? We were here in the coldest month of the year and the temperature was 68. We went shopping and bought three jackets, which we still have. I just returned them to the lockers as I had not used them this season. Heat in Mississippi has been difficult. At the moment, Kashina my helper has no power and no water in her house. She is staying with her sister, who has gas. Christina has no electricity so no heat and very little water so she and Molly are staying with her mother. Even though Linda lives close by, she kept power. Mary Frances is in the dorm at Millsaps College. They have power but no water on the third floor, where she lives. Thus no showers. To use the toilt you must go to the firt floor. Tonight she is ataying at my house, where we always had power and water. So she will be able to shower. My Texas family now has power, so their home is warm. But the water is still just a drip. So far no broken pipes. The temperature is no longer in the freezing zone. Heat has returned to the south. I do not need to turn on the heat in the condo in Mexico which is fortunate.
