May 5, 2012. Jackson, MS. George Will

George Will wrote a lovely story about his son, Jon.   Jon was turning 40.   He was born with Downs Syndrome.  Google George Will and you can read how a child with Downs can and does live a full and happy life.

When Jon was born, the physician suggest an institution would be the place to put the baby, but the parents thought not.  A family across the street from us on Old Spring Road had the same experience.   I was able to counsel the mother and point out all the joys to come when working with a child that is not perfectly normal.  Those parents ended up starting a band  for damaged children which was a huge success.  The name of the band was The Joyful Noise.  I loved it.

None of us are entitled to perfection.  We get what we get and do our best.  This small tribute to Jon will say it all.  It is a lovely piece of writing.
