In the late afternoon today , David decided to go fishing. We had all three watched the first of the baseball games, and before dinner, he wanted some exercise and to catch fish. The evening was beautiful so I sat on the deck and watched the action. Moose hates to get in either the kayak or poke boat. In years past, he would go fishing with David, riding quietly in the bow of the boat, but one day, David took Moose down a rapids in the Guadeloupe River. Moose has refused to get into a boat since.
Moose follows David everywhere but as soon as David picked up the poke boat to take to the lake, Moose refused to leave the yard. He stood watching while David launched the boat. Then Moose came back up to the deck to be with me. And he watched for David's return. David paddled out of our bay and turned left around the corner. Immediately, Moose sat watching for David to return. I went into the kitchen and Moose came with me but he immediately wanted outside to watch for David.
Moose and I sat enjoying the evening but Moose was not enjoying the wait as much as me. He was waiting for David to return. He never took his eyes off the point where David disappeared. Finally, David paddled around the corner. Moose waited to be sure it was David, then Moose raced down to greet him. Moose was single focused on his task. He refused to go out in the boat but would not relax until David returned. The whole scene was impressive. That Moose is a good dog.
