February 19, 2020. Playa Royale, Mexico. Flooding.

The Pearl River is flooding. The River goes right through Jackson. Our reservoir was formed by building a damn on the Pearl River. The River is at the third highest level ever recorded. But this is a pretty bad flood in Jackson. Many houses had to be abandoned. But now the river has crested so the river should go down. Unfortunately, rain is forecast for this week and next. The worst flood was in the 1970's. The next was in the 1980's. So since we moved to Mississippi the Pearl River has never flooded...until now. Unfortunately, I am not there to see the action. My house is on a bluff so am high and dry. Christina and her Mother also live in high ground. But some very nice homes not too far from Christina have several feet of water in their homes. Not good. The Mississippi is at flood stage too. The rain for the past few weeks has dumped a huge amount of rain on the Mississippi basin. The Missouri River is flooding, which drains into the Mississippi. The Pearl does not. It ends up in the Gulf directly. Water is a freak of nature when it unloads its wrath. This time, the Pearl River has flooded for the first time in over 30 years. It must be quite a sight.
