January 4, 2013. Jackson, Ms. Incentives.

Bribery is very similar to incentives, and they both work well.    Kate and Mary Frances wanted an i Touch, a smaller version of an iPad.   One day when we were all together in Mexico, Mary Frances and Kate came to Andrew and Christina with a proposition.   Mary Frances suggested to Andrew that if she memorized 60 verses of the Odyssey she be given and iTouch.  He agreed, not really thinking that she would do it.  Next, Kate came up with the suggestion that she would memorize the whole Periodic Table, in order to receive an iTouch.  Now this is a really difficult task because it is all totally rote memory, so Andrew and Christina both agreed.   The deal was struck.

Incentives are amazing.   Mary Frances memorized the verses in ten days so was given her iTouch at the end of school, while Kate was just given her iTouch yesterday after writing the whole table from memory.  Even Ken has never memorized the whole thing  and now Kate has done it all.

Now of course, Andrew thinks they should have made the task more difficult for Mary Frances since she took all of ten days to complete the task.  But a deal is a deal.  The girls are thrilled having their iTouch.  But I bet the next time they have a good suggestion, Andrew and Christina will set the bar high!!
