January 8, 2013. Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. La Isla.

Every year we see improvements in the little outside restaurant just down the street.   I am always impressed.  It is one of those restaurants we always look for because the locals go for lunch.   You know it is inexpensive and also has good food.   This is the third year we have dined there.

This tiny restaurant sits just beside the road.   The six tables are under a red tent.   The first year they brought in water in big jugs.  Flushing the toilet meant pouring a bucket into the back of the commode.  And no door was on the bathroom stall.  Last year, a shower curtain was in place,  and the toilet flushed all by itself.   This year actual wooden doors were on the bathrooms, and there were two of them.   Great improvements.  Also a bar had been constructed in our absence.   They are a very industrious family.  And the mother is a good cook.

Our breakfast bill this morning was $12.  The food was excellent although unusual.   The breakfast I ordered was because I had not eaten it before.  It consisted of tortillas chips smothered with a tomato sauce,  then covered with cheese, chopped onions and cream.  Refried beans on the side.  It was delicious.  Hot fresh flour tortillas and coffee made the breakfast complete.   Ken's plate was full and he ate every bit.  No snacks tonight.  Eventually we will be forced to visit the market.
