January 31, 2013. Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. A Book.

Art of Getting Money is the book I am reading.  It was written by P.T. Barnum.  It is an old book and an old fashioned book but I am enjoying it all the same.  Everything seems so simple.  His gospel is to have you spend just a little less than you earn.  Then put that bit into real estate or stocks or savings and don't touch those funds.   It all seems so easy and it is easy, but it is difficult to carry out.

He makes the point that it does not really matter whether your income is high or not.  The system of getting money is the same.   He understands why people spend all their money and even spend more than they earn, but in his opinion it is inexcusable.  Ken says that it is the same as losing weight.  Everyone knows how to do it but it is difficult to follow the rules.    He is scathing on the spending of money to impress others with clothes.  I know that people do it.  Fortunately, I never fell into that trap but in his opinion it is a foolish policy.

I just read an article saying that 25% of Americans have no net worth.  If this is true, those 25% should read Art of Getting Money, then implement every actions he suggests.  It is an old tale that clearly needs repeating.
