Christina's family always spends the last week of June at a resort in Maine. Then our family comes to see us in Nova Scotia. This season, Ken and I were coming mid July so I asked Christina if she would enjoy inviting friends up to visit. The Sutherland family accepted her invitation except they have decided to make an epic journey and drive from Mississippi to Nova Scotia, then drive to Chicago on the way back. Eleanor and the four children will be gone for over 7 weeks while Jim will join them part of the time then fly home for 2 weeks of work before rejoining the family for another week. Ken and I will join them for the last 4 days of they visit in Nova Scotia.
I knew they were stopping on the way north but I was not sure of their route or their time period so I invited them for dinner for a period of Questions and Answers so we could quiz them about their trip. The Mills family came too, as well as Jim's parents and Linda, Christina's mother. We were a merry group of 20, sitting on the deck sipping wine and nibbling on sushi while we peppered Jim and Eleanor with questions. What a trip they are taking. The children are very excited. They will stop in Nashville, Asheville, Williamsburg, Washington, Philladelphia, New York, Boston and Portland, where meet Christina at the ferry dock bound for Yarmouth. At our home in Nova Scotia they will stay two weeks before heading west for Niagara On The Lake and then Chicago.
After learning all about the journey, we came in side to eat a casual dinner of barbecue sandwiches and all the trimmings. Next appointment will be sitting on the deck in Nova Scotia. The evening was a wonder. And Greta Barbour even took notes.
