My Father felt the same thing about Valentines Day as Mothers Day, which was that the love of your life and your Mother should be treated well every day of the year and not just on the special days. He further thought the special days were promoted by the card and floral companies. Our family has continued with his attitude so Valentines Day is not a big deal with us.
But still we celebrate. For the first time this season we ate lunch at the golf course, sitting on the balcony overlooking the 18th green. Don and Doreen, Ted and Cathy and Ken and I took the shuttle. I had made a reservation so we were seated at the end of the balcony in a private area immediately adjacent to the railing. The food was excellent and to celebrate we all ate ice cream. Mexican ice cream is wonderful but it turned out to be the only dessert they had left.
After taking the shuttle home, we all had a nap, a reminder that we had celebrated many Valentines Day in the past and now were due a late afternoon rest. Eating lunch at the golf course is perhaps my favorite. And we watched the sunset from our balcony while we munched on olives and cheese. It is difficult to find a better way to celebrate Valentines day than today. Perfect weather, good food and fine friends. Pretty Nice.
