April 11, 2017. Madison, Mississippi. Madison, Mississippi. The wash Out.

Last week we had a big storm.  A very big storm with lots and lots of rain, up to 12 inches over night.  Rice Road was flooded the next day and several folks were evacuated from their homes in boats, but there was little damage.  Trees were not down, just lots of small branches and leaves.  And we never lost power.

We live on a bluff so the next morning Ken inspected our back yard to see the damage.  We were fine but our neighbors in the big house had a washout.  A big washout.  Until this afternoon, I had not gone down to see the damage.  What a mess.

The neighbors home was built with a two car garage.  The home is grand.  The owners are young for this neighborhood and have lived there for 6 years.  Before they moved in, they built a 4 car garage  into the side of the bluff.  On the lower level is an apartment with a lovely half circle porch overlooking the water.   Shrubs and ground cover  went to the edge of the water.  On the other side was a set of stairs going down to their dock, which came from the main house as well as the garage.

Right now, the earth has disappeared from in front of the balcony of the new construction.  The stairs are barely standing but everything is gone.  If we have another heavy rain more soil will erode and the next thing to go would be the balcony.  It appears that work has started to make repairs.  I just hope they complete the construction soon.  The wash out looks ominous.
