La Isla started as a tiny place beside the road selling tacos for $1. Every year the owner improved the place. Her son was a waiter when he was not in school and her husband worked in the evenings, the place was a family affair. We have been enjoying their food from the first day they opened. It was our favorite restaurant in Nuevo Vallarta. Wendy and Ken like it too.
One of the pleasures of going there is that every year the place has improved. When it first opened there were no bathrooms. The next year there were two bathrooms at the backside. But there was no doors. The next year two shower curtains appeared to be used as doors. The next year there were doors. It was fun watching the progress. And of course, the lady owner was an excellent cook so the food was always great.
But there chairs are wood so I can not sit comfortably on their chairs so this week, Wendy and Ken walked down for a delicious breakfast. And they brought me back a breakfast burrito which was perfect. I ate half yesterday and the other half this morning. This year they added two sets of chairs and tables in front and last year they added two large macaws. Fortunately the food remains excellent. We all love that little restaurant.
