I have never wanted to own or run a restaurant. There are at least 50 ways why I feel that way but evidently, many folks hanker to open a restaurant. Here is one example.
A couple retired to Liverpool and opened a coffee shop on Main Street serving coffee and croissants. It is called The Main on the Mersey. The sweet rolls were delicious and it was popular and always busy. The front holds a gift shop that is rented out to someone else and on the water side is a big deck where people sat and ate. It was crowded and popular. After three years they decided to open a restaurant across the street. They took over an office formerly held by a lawyer so lots of renovations needed to be done to turn it into a restaurant.
Their hope was to open the new place for the season. And they moved the coffee shop across the street. They hired a Japanese chef. Finally, the restaurant opened for business two weeks ago. The coffee shop was full during the morning and the restaurant was open for lunch and dinner. All was well. People liked the food. But disaster struck on Sunday when the new chef quit. They served 40 meals on Saturday night. And on Sunday the new chef quit and headed back to Toronto.
My caterer was asked to fill in until they were able to find a cook. But Tina is retired and already works part time at Lanes Fortunately , my work is over. But the poor owners. There is yet another reason why I would never want to own a restaurant.
