Ever since we have arrived at the ranch, the Burn Ban signs were everywhere. The ground is dry and brown. We have had no rain this autumn. And the Pray For Rain signs are back up at the church in Harper. In the Spring when we had flooding, the sign went down, but now it is up again. The problem for us at the ranch is that we burn our trash. Soon we will leave the ranch and drive to Mississippi and we do not wish to leave our trash for David to deal with. Our plan was to take all our trash to the lake when we drive there on Tuesday and fill our big container, which we would leave by to road to be picked up.
But we got lucky. Last night it rained about half an inch. Ken looked out first thing this morning and saw that someone had been burning, so this afternoon when we had no wind, we went to burn our trash in the fire pit. With a bit of wood and lots of paper trash, we enjoyed a nice little fire. Nothing is better that sitting by the fire, even when you know you are only there to burn the trash. The fire pit is a pleasant cool spot too, sitting in the shade under the trees. Other than the balconies at the Top House, the fire pit area is the nicest spot on the ranch. Today we enjoyed it for the first time this visit.
