October 1, 2015. Harper, Texas. The German Bakery.

Don't miss eating breakfast at The German Bakery whenever you are in Fredericksburg.  Ken and I had forgotten how good their breakfasts really were, but this morning it all came back to us as we both ate every bite of our full breakfast plate.  Ken had to have a test at the hospital that required him to fast from midnight until the blood was drawn.  The problem for Ken is that he get hypoglycemic if he does not eat quickly after getting up.   The drive from the ranch to town, then wait for the test, makes him not  function.   To compensate, I drove to town and as soon as the test was done, we hurried to the German Bakery for breakfast.    I also had not eaten breakfast before we left so we were both starving when we arrived at the Bakery.

Years ago, I ordered skim milk when ordering breakfast at the German Bakery.  The waitress laughed and said "This is a German Bakery.  Only full fat milk allowed".  So I drank whatever they brought and it was delicious.   Today, we arrived at 10:00 for breakfast and the place was almost full.  Obviously, a lot of folks in Fredericksburg also enjoy a late breakfast at the Bakery.   Our food was excellent and when I checked out I bought three loaves of bread plus two wonderful sweet almond chocolate things and two big cheese and sausage rolls for our lunch, which we ate at 3:00.  It is a good thing we do not eat breakfast at The German Bakery every morning, but every so often it was a delight.
