For the last two months we have been living at our lovely home in Madison, Mississippi and we have had no house guests. This is unusual for us. In Mexico we have company almost the whole time we are there. In fact we often have both guest bedrooms full. The same is true for Nova Scotia. A good friend asked last week when they could visit us in Nova Scotia and I had to tell them only one week was available at the Guest House, and that was late in the season. Texas is the same as Mississippi. No one wants to visit us in Texas, either the lake house or the ranch, except for our friends Marilyn and Richard. Now that Richard has died, I wonder if Marilyn will visit? Time will tell.
This season in Mississippi was supposed to be busy with friends in our house but none of the folks who were intending to come ever appeared. Ken and I have laughed about our lack of house guests and we are wondering if Mississippi is not appealing to people. In fact, I suspect that Mississippi is still thought of as it appeared during the civil rights era in the 60's. The state still gives people a bad taste I think. Our friend John mentioned to me recently that the best kept secret about Mississippi is how well the races get along. You never hear or read about that in the press. Ken and I have survived and thrived all by ourselves in Mississippi but it is certainly unusual not to have friends living in our home. But we have enjoyed ourselves for sure.
