They are getting better. Every year the competence grows. Scott, the bandmaster, has had a good job teaching and training and encouraging the young and old. His band camp every summer has seen several new young recruits to the band. The concert at the Brooklyn band shell was the first of the year for us. Thirty folks from Western Head came to hear the band. We are strong supporters of our band. The evening was perfect for an out door concert. Often we are chilly but last evening it was warm and sunny with no need for jackets or gloves. And the band was better than last year, which was better than the year before.
Bandmaster Scott is returning to school. He will attend the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario to complete a Masters Degree in performance on the clarinet. His first degree in music was with the euphonium and we heard him play a whole concert as a quartet of trombone players where he was excellent. A new Bandmaster has been hired so the continuity will continue. There had been a band for almost two hundred years in Liverpool until it folded ten years ago for lack of a leader. Five years ago, Scott put the new band together and with his enthusiasm and energy and expertise the band is thriving. We in Western Head wish Scott well with his studies and we hope for continued improvement with our band.
