July 7, 2012. Western Head, NS. The First Party.

Today was Mary Mitchell's birthday, so tonight we held our first party of the year at our house.  It was great fun.   Appetizers  and cocktails both down by the water and on the deck of the house spread up the people and made it interesting.   The ten children moved from the grass and the fire area to the playroom to Connor the boat.   which meant that they were never still and were always happy.  The twenty-four adults just talked and watched.

For dinner we ate sea food chowder, made by my friend Betty Smith.   I also served chicken strips for those who are allergic to shell fish and also because most children do not like chowder.  We served  fruit and vegetables with the wine and beer, along with cheese and crackers and three types of fresh bread with the chowder.  A large birthday cake made by Mary MacDonald, with brownies by Frances Y. rounded out the meal.   Mary was pleased with her birthday party.  Next year she will be having a big O year.

Everyone helped clear up the mess.  Now, all the dishes are away and the house has returned to normal.  But it is a big job, having a party for 34, but worth every effort.
