Firemen do a lot of things. They jump at the sound of a whistle and drive quickly to put out fires, but most of the time they wait. In addition, they spend a lot of time being pleasant with the public, sometimes publicized and sometimes from the goodness of their heart. Last Monday, we eight from our home, were invited for dinner at Walt and Mary in Liverpool. Near the end of dinner, there were noises coming from the normally quiet street, so Molly asked to go out to see the commotion.
It was the hit of the night for Molly. The firemen were checking out the fire hydrant and while waiting, the assembled group of children living nearby, including Molly, gathered around the fire truck. The big burly firemen allowed the children to tour the big fire truck and sit in the drivers seat. The children wore the fire hats. The firemen did not need to be kind to these children. They just did. The children were thrilled.
