July 6, 2012. Western Head, NS. The First Fire.

The site for the fire pit is gorgeous.   Sitting on the deck in front of the fire, you look out on the ocean, so as you watch the bonfire, you also watch the waves breaking on the rocks.   It is a beautiful place.   This evening before dinner, Andrew built the first fire of the year.   One by one everyone gathered down by the water and the adults sat on the Adirondack chairs on the deck beside the fire while the children played on the grass.

Soon, Andrew went searching for a bottle of wine while the girls scrambled down on the rocks in search of snails.  Eventually, Kate and Mary Frances cooked two snails on the fire but with no butter or garlic, the snails had no taste.  This was the first fire of the year, but definitely not the last.
