Our excursion on Monday could have been a disaster. After our walk at the lighthouse, as the weather was lovely, I suggested that we take a drive in the country and have lunch in Caladonia, the little town about half way to Annapolis Royal. Anna does not mind driving and we had no other appointments that afternoon, so we decided to head out. I knew of three restaurants in Caladonia so I felt sure we could find a place to eat. So off we went even though we would be having a late lunch. Caladonia is an hours drive away from Liverpool.
Half way there, I noticed that the air-conditioning was not working. No cool air at all. We discussed turning around so we could eat in Liverpool but we decided to keep on going. The air was still cool so we were comfortable enough to keep on going although in a warm car.
The first restaurant, The Hollow Log, was closed on Mondays. The second place was totally closed. All signs had been removed. And the third restaurant had been closed since last season. So we were stuck with no lunch in sight. We stopped at the Pharmacy to ask if there were any other lunch places and the nice lady told us about a place 15 minutes down the road. She even phoned ahead to be sure they were open. So off we went. By now we wee only a few miles from Annapolis Royal on the french shore.
Finally we ate a delicious lunch go haddock burgers and soup. The soup was world class: potato leek bacon cream soup. Worth the drive. Finally we got home just after 4:00. Our excursion turned out well even though our afternoon was longer and warmer than expected. We had a good time.
