June 7, 2022. Muskegon and Holland, MI. Downtown Muskegon.

We are docked right downtown in Muskegon.  The whole place is lovely and you can easily walk to town and the historic area in ten minutes.  And you can walk along the harbor for miles, all on smooth paths and landscaped lawns.  The place is impressive.  This afternoon David and I walked along the harbor.  The day was glorious with full sun and 65 degrees.  And a cool breeze.

Next we took a 20 minute shuttle around the downtown area, complete with a guide to tell us what we were seeing.  20 years ago the downtown area was neglected.  No one wanted to be there.  But now it is spectacular.  Old buildings have been turned into condos and apartments.  The stores have returned along with the people living in town.  The Victorian homes have been restored and are now open to tour.    David toured two old gems and loved all the old moldings.  The whole area downtown now just sparkles with energy and beauty.

So downtown cities can be made to live again.  But not with a lot of energy.  Seeing this town has been a delight.
