We were expecting to get up early in the morning to catch our 6:00 flight to Dallas, followed by a plane to Puerto Vallarta, but the weather intervened. Today in Jackson, we had sleet and hail and freezing rain which made the roads impassable. The airport closed this afternoon and will stay closed until after 4:00 Saturday afternoon. We could get to Dallas but we could not get to PV. So now we will travel on Sunday and hope the airport opens tomorrow evening. Who would have thought that we could not get out of Jackson because of iced roads? This is the deep south!!.
This has never happened to us before where we can not even make the first leg of our journey. We have had almost everything happen to us over the years, but not this, where we stay home an extra day. Unfortunately, our Wonderful Wendy and her family are staying with us at Paradise Village which means she must check in herself and get organized into our villa. Fortunately, they are all resilient, so I hope they make out OK.
At home here, food has been put in the freezer. Bags are sitting by the front door. Medications for tomorrow are packed. The computer, iPads and Kindles are in backpacks. Clothes have been washed. Tomorrow, I am going to stay all day in my nightshirt and sneak into bags for medications only. Tomorrow I was expecting 82 degrees but here it will be cold. I am treating this as a free day where I will do no useful work. One lesson I have learned from this delay: when you invite company, make sure to arrive a few days earlier than the company. But who would have thought it?
