April 6, 2021. Madison, Mississippi. The Clean Air Act.

The passing of The Clean Air Act in 1970 was an important event for Ken. Ken lived as an infant and young child in Creighton Mine, a small community that was a smelter. The chimneys had no srubbers so Ken was left with bad lungs. Dirty air was difficult for Ken so getting the air clean helped. The US has been spectcularly successful. From 1970 to 2020, there has been a 77% decrease in the pacticulate matter in the air. So life got easier for Ken as the air got cleaner and cleaner. Scientists have suggested that The Clean Air Act has been the most impressive legislation of the 20th Century. The National Geographic published an article in this month's magazine. That is where I learned all the information. Evidently, air pollution impacts lots of things in your body. We knew that Ken had a much weaker immune system than mine. And the artlcle states that people who live with pollution die earlier. Ken was always keen to have the air cleaned up even more. But he always thought that living to 82 was in part due to cleaner air. We also worked hard to live where the air was as clean as possible., such as by the shore. It is a good reminder that sometimes the government does good work and that was The Clean Air Act, passed in 1970 when Nixon was the president. And the legislation was passed by both parties. Ken was always grateful for The Clean Air Act.
