MAY 26, 2019. Canyon Lake, Texas. Life at the Lake.

As I sit at the counter writing this wee web blog, the large room is filling with friends and their children. Friends who live in Austin, Heath and Debbie, are at their lake house for the weekend and they have come for a group dinner along with their three children. Soon Bonnie and Wade will arrive with their son who has just graduated from high school. Soon Allison and Samantha are on the way from a graduation party and will bring three cars of more teenagers. Our party is growing. This afternoon, David and Suzanne and Abigail along with Debbie and Heath and their children spent the whole afternoon on the boat, tubing and swimming. Late this morning David and Suzanne took me on a sedate trip on the lake. We cruised slowly past all the homes we can only see from the road. I loved every minute. Yesterday I asked Samantha what she liked about being at the lake. We have owned this home for over 23 years so she has been coming here all her life. But often as kids get older they no longer enjoy weekend homes but the girls here still love living at the lake. I wondered what she thought about it. Her answer surprised me. She said she loves coming to the lake because she has nothing to worry about. She leaves school work at home. And she loves the lack of a schedule. She rests and water skis and tubes. And she sleeps in. The most important thing about being at the lake is that she does not worry about anything. And she loves being at the lake. This evening is a perfect example of life at the lake. Friends coming to dinner. Kids about to play a game. More friends soon arriving . We did not realize all those years ago how important the lake has in the life of the grandchildren. Ken has said that owning a country home has two benefits. First is the enjoyment of being there. And next is thinking about it in your mind when things are difficult at work or school. This simple home has done everything the four of us hoped for when we purchased it together 23 years ago. Life at the lake is delightful for both children and adults.
