Anna has been my helper for 4 seasons and Abe is her husband. Today was a red letter day for them because they crossed over the border in order to activated their green card, thus giving them the right to live and work in the United States. It has taken four years to get the approval but now it has finally happened. First they will visit their daughter and her husband and children in Mass. where they expect to spend two or three weeks. Then they will drive to Pennsylvania where they have another daughter with her husband and children. This family have been the ones urging Anna and Abe to get their green card and where they will stay. The daughter lives near Hershey.
I remember the date. June 26, 1964 was the day we crossed the border, heading for Texas. It has been tattooed into my brain. And so will Anna and Abe. They will live in a small holiday trailer that they will keep on the daughter's . property. It has already been towed to Mass. where they will live until then tow it to Pennsylvania for their permanent home. So they are all set.
They were anxious with crossing the border. Although all their papers were in order, when crossing the border you never know what might happen, especially with Covid still alive and well. But the crossing was smooth and easy and quick. The official even gave them a "God bless you in the United States", which pleased Anna. They are both excited with their next adventure. And I wish them well.
