June 6, 2023. Madison, Mississippi. The Business of Golf.

I know nothing about the business of golf.  All I know is that for the past few years, I have enjoyed watching golf tournaments on television.  But for the past year, the business of golf was in the face of everyone who loved golf.  A league , funded by the Saiudis started running a league in competition to the PGA.  Huge amounts of money were given to some of the top players to play in this new league, called the LIV golf.  Many players took the money and joined LIV.  And many of the best players stayed loyal to the PGA and did not accept all the money.

For a year, life was difficult for the players and the fans.  The PGA would not allow the players who joined LIV Golf  to play in the PGA tournaments so people like me never got to see those good players.  They just disappeared, except for the major tournaments such as The Masters.

But today, the PGA announced that the tournaments  will be merged.  All law suits between the leagues are terminated.  This came as a big surprise to the players.  And they are not pleased.    This is a big deal.  Those players who stayed loyal to the PGA lost millions by refusing to accept the money to join LIV Golf.  Will they be compensated?  We are going to find out.  But the business of golf is up front and center, whether or not we wanted to know.    All I wanted to know about golf was to watch some great golf.  Now I am in the midst of a major controversy.  It certainly is interesting.
